My Journey With Fiction

(A/N: Spoiler warning. This poem contains a major spoiler for the 'Divergent' series by Veronica Roth. Please read at your own expense.)

This is a collage I made and it features all the books that got me into reading. (Oh, they're all film adaptations!)

I share a deep relation,

With books of all types,

I was introduced to them,

By a young friend so wise.

I saw in her hands,

A bound pack of pages,

In the front, a boy wizard,

Whom, we have loved for ages.

A voice in my head said,

"Go pick it up,"

As I read about Hogwarts,

I was left, feeling stumped.

And then dear Lord!

Began my exciting voyage,

Magical creatures and beasts,

Running through the foliage.

At 11, he discovered,

"Yer a wizard, Harry,"

Hogwarts was his home,

Important lessons he'd carry.

Through the seven years,

Of his magical education,

He fought Voldy with his friends,

Hail the wizarding sensation!

Let's move on to dystopian,

Where we tackle with sorrow,

There's death and destruction,

With no hope of tomorrow.

"I volunteer as Tribute!"

Katniss screamed from the crowd,

The gory Hunger Games,

Made the vile Capitol proud.

She sparked up rebellion,

She saved her dear sister,

Peeta, Gale and Prim,

Were all that would matter.

Instead of the swanky clothes shops nearby,

Or the supermarkets and stores that sell sandwich,

The names of bookstores are on my lips,

Before I can say 'Quidditch'.

Another dystopian named 'Divergent',

Sprung into my life bringing joy,

Chicago, the factions and Tris, our hero,

Became brave from the girl who was coy.

In Dauntless, she met some fierce daredevils,

Uriah, Christina and Will,

Along with Tobias, the man of her dreams,

She destroyed civil war but got killed.

I decided to shift to some light-hearted romance,

And child-related humour and fun,

'The Fault in Our Stars' was my best pick,

And 'Wonder' that left me stunned.

The metaphor and Hazel met one day,

In the Literal Heart of Jesus,

Their friendship turned into something else,

A stream of tears releases.

You can't blend in when you're born to stand out,

Auggie isn't happy, he whines,

With a facial deformity, he finds school tough,

But with friends and family, he shines.

'13 Reasons Why' was my heaviest read,

The most mature and painful,

Dealing with suicide and depression,

Hannah takes her life, it was stressful.

Liesel Meminger stepped in next,

Surrounding her was Nazism,

She found solace in words and books that she stole,

'They' died but she showed heroism.

These fictional characters are not just people,

Who exist in pages and ink,

They are real and have become my very best friends,

We have developed a heartwarming link.

Yours poetically,
