Destination Childhood

Writer's picture: Ayushi PandeyAyushi Pandey

Brought in the arms of a mother so caring,

In a world so surreal and people so loving,

My childhood seemed like a roller coaster ride,

With no inhibitions and emotions to hide.

She raced like Usain Bolt with that ugly bottle,

Feelings of nausea emanated so often,

The 'Malicious Milk Monster' was always after me,

I puked and I puked till my face turned green.

Ravishing rubies and things of the past,

Were churning in my mouth, like cows eating grass,

Mom dearly possessed some glistening stones,

They went in my mouth along with smartphones.

My favourite pastime was the game of Tug o' War,

The rope was my mother's hair so long,

Idli, sambar and south Indian food,

I'd sacrifice my life for these dishes so cool.

Travelling in comfy and luxurious trains,

And air-conditioned aeroplanes,

I look at the vast canopy of the sky,

And wonder why I can't freely fly.

Yours poetically,
