An Ode to India's 'Chandni'

Writer's picture: Ayushi PandeyAyushi Pandey

As I woke up this morning, the 24th of Feb,

I was startled and shocked by the news of this celeb,

All news channels, this headline they bore:

'ACTOR SRIDEVI PASSES AWAY AT 54.'

It was hard to believe this gruesome fact,

Bollywood and India seemed to be racked,

With longing and pain,

This demise left a stain.

Actor par excellence, dancer and star,

She redefined beauty and raised the bar,

People love her, they respect her repertoire,

For she was the country's first female superstar.

She made it big in the South industry,

She did her first film when she was four,

With stars like Rajnikanth and Hassan,

She swept accolades and awards galore.

Bollywood welcomed her with open arms,

They offered her roles, she displayed her charm,

Mr.India, Chandni and Moondram Pirai,

Her films were successful, she became the apple of our eye.

Continuing her journey to finish atop,

She refused to budge, she refused to stop,

Chaalbaaz, Sadma and Lamhe,

After these blockbusters, she decided to break.

Eight years she rested and found some peace,

Until her comeback as Shashi left us pleased,

English Vinglish, her film, what a heartwarming story,

My favourite it is, let's applaud her in glory.

Then came the time when she achieved a feat,

With 300 films, the world was at her feet,

We expected so much more, be it big or small,

Sadly Mom was the last and final of them all.

People come and go but not all leave an impact,

She will remain in our souls, her legacy is stacked,

Death touches the spring of our common humanity,

Her void is something that will remain for eternity.

Yours poetically,
